Waqrapukara is located in the province of Acomayo south of the city of Cusco. It has an altitude of 4,300 meters above sea level, on top of a mountain at the foot of the Apurimac River canyon.
Waqrapukara has not yet been fully investigated but it is believed that Waqrapukara was a religious sanctuary due to the rock formation that it has in the form of horns. And also a fortress due to its location on the top of the mountain that gives it the appearance of a castle.
To get to Waqrapukara there are several paths from different points of Cusco. In addition, on the way you can see other Inca sites such as Tambopukara, Yactapukara and Ayapukara, which would show that this was a religious place of great importance.
So if you are a lover of the unknown and hiking, this place is perfect for you. We recommend you spend a few days in Cusco before making this trip to avoid altitude sickness.
