Tour Details

Choquequirao, also known as Machu Picchu’s sister, is located in the Vilcabamba mountain range, between the foothills and the summit of a hill, in the district of Santa Teresa, province of La Convencion.

The Choquequirao Archaeological Complex is a nine-sector Inca complex with an upper main square, buildings, fountains, warehouses, sacred corrals, the rulers’ residence, a priest’s temple, and platforms.

Only 30% of what Choquequirao was discovered, making it ideal for lovers of mystery and adventure. Its function under the Inca Empire is unknown, but it is thought to have served to connect Pisac and Machu Picchu with the Amazon Peruvian.

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Capuliyoc - Marampata

We will pick you up from your Cusco hotel in our private transportation and drive you to Capuliyoc, a little town. The Choquequirao Trek begins at this location. We’ll meet the porters, muleteers, and chef here, who will assist us with our belongings and accompany us for the next four days.

Following a delectable Andean breakfast, we will begin a 20-minute ascent along the Apurimac River’s path to a lookout with panoramic views of the valley.

Then we’ll start descending to Chiquisqa via a road lined with various plantations, the majority of which are used for medical purposes. Our guide will go over these plants in further depth.

Upon arrival in Chiquisqa we will stop for lunch. After a break we will continue descending to Playa Rosalinas which is the border between Apurimac and Cusco.

After crossing a Rosalinas bridge we will climb a hill to Marampata which is 3500 meters above the sea level. This is where we will spend the night in a comfortable tent.

Day 2Marampata - Choquequirao

A nice cup of Peruvian coffee or tea will be served to you. After breakfast, we’ll go for a walk to the Choquequirao archaeological complex. Our knowledgeable local guide will take you on a complete tour of the wonderfull complex.

The main square, ceremonial centers, agricultural terraces, and other sites will be visited. After visit this beautiful site, we’ll return to camp for lunch.

You will have the opportunity to return to the complex later to see the sunset. At night, we’ll serve a delicious dinner.

Day 3Choquequirao - Marampata - Santa Rosa - Chiquiska

After a fantastic breakfast, we’ll continue our walk to Chiquiska, where we’ll camp tonight. In the raod we were watching the Andean condors fly overhead.

We’ll journey through some small towns surrounded by lush nature before stopping for lunch at Rosalinas Beach.

We’ll continue walking after lunch to Chiquiska’s camp, where we’ll have a lovely evening and rest.

Day 4Chiquiska - Cachora - Cusco

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll go for three hours uphill to Cachora, where we’ll have one final lunch.

We’ll say our goodbyes to the porters and chefs after lunch. We’ll board the vehicle that will return us to Cusco.

On the way back, we can stop and swim by Apurimac’s Conoc hot springs.
