Tambopata National Reserve 5 days–One of the most breathtaking spots on earth, Tambopata national reserve in the amazon jungle of Peru will transport you to a whole new world where you are truly entrenched with the wildlife, beautiful jungle terrain of the open plains with massive meanders and very pristine of biodiversities.

At the Puerto Maldonado airport according to your flight schedule
Pick up from the terminal or airport in the city of Puerto Maldonado, transfer to the Chuncho Lodge Office, brief talk of welcome and activities to develop in the tour. Some final arrangements. Departure from our office in our car by Road Interoceanica an average of 48 km, then enter a dirt road by middle of the forest for approximately 18 km to the banks of the Tambopata River. You will arrive at the Chunho Lodge in the late afternoon. After refreshments you will go on a short introductory night walk into the forest to look for some of the nocturnal creatures. Overnight at Chuncho Lodge. Includes lunch and dinner.
You will wake early in the morning and after a breakfast we will be ready to go on a boat ride on the Tambopata River to get a walk to the parrot clay lick on the banks of the El Gato Creek. You will watch parrots and parakeets gather and feed on the clay.
On the walk you may see animals such as monkeys and other interesting plants and insects.
After back from this parrots and parakeets clay lick you can relax with the option to swim in the river banks. If you wish, you can try to do some fishing, there is piranhas at this creek and you can catch them and release in the river where inhabit many species of fish. Return to the lodge for lunch
After lunch you will have the opportunity to visit the 38 meter canopy tower, from there it offers unrivalled views of the Rainforest.
Our guides will lead you on a trail to get the tower and climb its steps. Finally, you reach the top. There, you’ll be able to see miles of pristine forest stretching in every direction. Because animals are most active in the canopy, you’ll have incredible chances to see wildlife. In this unforgettable experience, you’ll be awed by the intimate views of treetop animals, paired with the sweeping panorama of the jungle.
In the night we will go on night walk to understand rainforest ecosystems and see some of the amazing trees, many animals such as colorful frogs, maybe snakes, spiders like tarantulas and many other animals active in the night, this activity is very safe and great opportunity for macro photos.
Return to the lodge for dinner. Sleep at Chuncho Lodge.
We wake up very early, at 4:30, to leave at 5:00 a.m. our destination, the world’s largest Macaw clay lick, a trip of approximately 1:30 hours boat trip, on the way we will have the incredible opportunity to see Capybaras, which are the largest rodents in the world, tapirs, and you can even see the South American feline, the Jaguar, many of our customers (35%) have seen this beautiful cat and they have photographic evidence of these encounters with these mammals.
Once arrived to the Macaw clay lick we will see hundreds of parrots of different species who come to eat clay on the wall adjacent to the River. We will accommodate us in our chairs to wait to begin one of the most beautiful natural shows of the birds in the world. Species of large macaws the most colorful of America, reds and Greens, blue and yellows and the scarlet’s macaws gather to eat clay needed in they daily diet to eliminate toxins. Parrots such as the blue headed, orange cheek , white eyed, dusky headed, among other come every day to same place for same purpose. On a good day of activity, you can see hundreds of these wonderful animals flying over you. An experience of lifetime.
Return to our lodge by boat again, one more opportunity to search for monkeys, capybaras , birds , turtles basking on the logs, caimans resting on the sand beach of the river and much more. Return to our lodge, and we will have time to rest at the hammocks house.
At middle day you will have the opportunity to go to swim at the river, this is optional, at the river there is caimans, anacondas, sting rays, electric eels but you can still go for a swim in the hot day, we did it several times and it is very refreshing. Lunch at the lodge.
In the afternoon you are going to go in a etnobotanical long jungle walk to learn about medicinal plants, amazon types of wood and a great opportunity to see more mammals. By night free to rest or possibility of another night hike (highly recommended), this activity will be possible according the weather conditions. Night at Chuncho Lodge.
After a good breakfast, our boat will take us to our car to journey back to Puerto Maldonado, the same path to get back to the city, once arrived in the city we will move to the main port of the city to begin another cruise within the reserve, this time our destination is the famous and beautiful Sandoval Lake. This is an oxbow lake in Tambopata national reserve. After approximately 40 minutes by boat, we started a 3 km hike through the forest until you reach the shore of the Lake. Since starting our tour we will visit this beautiful body of water, the place is spectacular, many birds, very good opportunity to see a lots of monkeys of several species such as the red howler monkey, brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, dusky tity and saddle back tamarin.
We install in our partner lodge, and return to the Lake to receive one of the most beautiful sunsets of the Amazon, we’ll stay until the evening on the Lake, because in the dark night you will be able to see the black Caiman is the largest of the rainforest crocodiles, reaching more than 4 m long, and they love the Lakes. With flashlights you can observe them closely and take good photos.

Another day of waking up early but highly recommended, will leave at 6:30 in the morning to visit again the Sandoval Lake, in a beautiful sunrise and awakening of many of the animals that are very active this morning. Also we’ll have great chance to see the Giant Otters.
We will paddle across the western part of the Lake, with its beautiful palm trees of more than 30 meters high, reflected in the water aguajales, this will leave you full of memories of your last day in the Amazon jungle. Return to lodge, breakfast and transfer to the Bank of the River to subsequently be brought back to the city of Puerto Maldonado in time for your flight return or bus ride. Includes breakfast.
