Undoubtedly, the Incas knew how to solve challenges and make the most of nature’s resources. Proof of this was the construction of several suspension bridges. Its construction was made based on vegetable fibers and weaving techniques. They were built in places where the rugged geography of the Andes mountain range made it impossible to connect some communities with others.
It is located in the district of Quehue in the province of Canas. It is located at a height of 3,700 meters above the Apurimac River. This bridge is 29 meters long and 1.20 meters wide.
Q’eswachaka is the last Inca bridge preserved to date, and is renewed every year for its conservation during the second week of June by the communities: Chaupibanda, Choccayhua, Huinchiri and Ccollana Quehue.
The renovation process is a major four day event that has been recognized by some of the leading channels such as NOVA and BBC. It is also declared as Cultural Heritage by the Peruvian government.
